A contemporary second story addition and full house renovation to a mid-century rambler in Seattle's View Ridge neighborhood. The new layout inserts a central stair connecting the main floor both to a formerly underutilized day-lit basement and a new second level master suite, home office, and expansive roof deck. The living area was completely opened up to the formal dining area and kitchen. A natural palette of vertical cedar and core ten steel was composed with the traditional lap siding of the existing house, all which will gracefully weather over time changing the general aesthetic. Perhaps the best feature of the renovation is an expansive roof deck over the north half of the home with a fire pit, lounge space, and dining area looking out to stunning views over Lake Washington.
